It was felt that the establishment of such a web site would give teachers, parents and educators an opportunity to become aware of the resources which are available, and also to pool their efforts for the betterment of all.
Please note that these materials are for teacher training purposes or to provide parents with material which they may, at their discretion, use in age-appropriate ways.
Who is running this web site?
A steering committee oversees the ongoing operation of shout-schoolsout.org.
Please note: this site is not an officially authorised website relating to any specific teacher or school.
We are all volunteers and no-one is making any profit from this web site.
Please feel free to contribute to the material we can display.
How does this website support educational principles or curricula?
When this web site began, it was largely based around educational materials for teachers of English because that subject is a common course in schools across Australia.
By presenting their subject with a view towards equity and celebration of diversity, English teachers were encouraged to ensure that all students had access to positive social values in their common curriculum.
With the introduction of VELS (Victorian Essential Learning Standards) in 2006, it is observed that our material can be naturally adapted to incorporate the needs of other subject areas to ensure a wider curriculum basis.
Please note that our aim is to encourage a recognition and celebration of diversity in all its forms, and we ask that people who use our material will do so with this intent.
What does GLBTIQ mean?
This is shorthand for "gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer".
This acronym is used in a generic way to indentify people who do not conform to the traditional heterosexual mould or stereotype. Many GLBTIQ people use the term to identify members of their community.
The title GLBTIQ (or variations such as GLBT) will be found throughout this web site and on others to which we may be linked.
Another common acronym is SSAY or "same-sex attracted youth", referring to young people who might feel attracted to others of the same sex but who do not necessarily self-identify (or possibly publicly identify themselves) as being gay, lesbian or bisexual. A variation on this name is SSATY, or "same-sex attracted or transgender youth". This title is inclusive of young people who may also have issues relating to their gender identity.
